About Ayar Labs

Develops in-package optical I/O: the TeraPHY optical engine and SuperNova light source replace copper interconnects with light, removing bandwidth and power constraints in AI training and inference infrastructure.

Ayar Labs is a developer of silicon photonics for communication between AI processors, founded in 2015 based on research from MIT and Berkeley, headquartered in San Jose. TeraPHY optical chiplets are placed in the same package as the accelerator and transmit data with light instead of copper, which allows for assembling racks with thousands of accelerators with lower energy consumption. Wiwynn, Alchip, and GUC integrate the company's optics into their platforms, while NVIDIA, AMD, Intel, and MediaTek joined the capital. In October 2026, Ayar Labs first demonstrated a working AI system with integrated optics. In September 2026, Series E was expanded by $150 million to $650 million, with over $1 billion raised in total.

Key highlights

  1. Wiwynn invested in a partner. Taiwanese server assembler in March 2026 introduced with Ayar Labs a rack architecture for 1 024 accelerators, and in May expanded the project at Computex. In 2026, Wiwynn invested in the company, and in October demonstrated the system in operation.
  2. Alchip and GUC bring TeraPHY to the clouds. Through these design centers, cloud companies order their own AI chips. With TeraPHY on a single substrate, such a chip gets over 100 Tbps of optical connectivity and over 256 optical ports.
  3. NVIDIA opened its stands. Starting June 2026, Ayar Labs products are compatible with NVIDIA optics and interfaces. Cloud providers can place their chips with Ayar Labs optics into NVIDIA racks, and NVIDIA itself has participated in three funding rounds of the company.
