About Boom Supersonic

Developer of the Overture supersonic airliner, seating 60-80 passengers at about Mach 1.7, and the Symphony jet engine. In December 2025 the company raised $300M led by Darsana Capital Partners at about a $1.5B valuation.

Boom Technology is building Overture, the first supersonic passenger aircraft in half a century, seating 60-80, along with its own engine for it. Founded in 2014 in Centennial, Colorado. To fund development, the company sells the same gas generator in a ground configuration — as the Superpower turbine for AI data centers; contracted capacity stands at 1.21 GW. The Overture order book holds 130 orders and options. The Symphony test facility opened in April 2025, and assembly of the first full-scale engine began in April 2026. There is no commercial revenue yet. Valued at $1.5B in a $300M round (December 2025); roughly $1B raised.

Key highlights

  1. For the first time the company has a path to revenue before the first aircraft. Until December 2025 Boom was a "no money until 2029" story; the turbine business changes that.
  2. The regulatory barrier is being removed right now. On March 25, 2026 the US House of Representatives passed a bill opening up overland flight, and on June 30 the Federal Aviation Administration proposed replacing the 1973 ban with a ground-noise standard.
  3. The shortage of generation capacity for artificial intelligence is a window that will not stay open forever. The queue for gas turbines at traditional manufacturers is booked out for years, and a data-center operator will buy from a new supplier for the sake of the delivery date.
  4. The engine has moved from paper into metal. The Symphony test facility opened in April 2025, and assembly of the first full-scale unit began in April 2026.
  5. The valuation has not yet reflected the change in business model. The $1.5B round closed on the same day the turbine order was announced, meaning the deal price was formed before the market saw a $1.2B order book and a signed industrial partner.
