About Perplexity

AI search platform that answers questions with direct source citations, competing with Google. Raised about $200M in September 2025 at a $20B valuation (up from $9B at the end of 2024). Annual recurring revenue is approaching $200M.

Perplexity is a search engine that answers a question with finished text and links to sources rather than returning a list of websites. Founded in August 2022 in San Francisco. As of July 2026 more than 100 million people a month use the platform, on roughly $500M of annualized revenue against $200-232M at the time of the last round. Over 2026 the product moved beyond search: the Comet browser, the Personal Computer agent on Mac and, from July 28, on Windows, a secure sandbox for agents, and an industry build for lawyers. Currently valued at its Series E (September 2025); roughly $1.5B raised in total.

Key highlights

  1. The timing of the listing has been stated publicly. On June 9, 2026 the CEO told CNBC the company plans an offering in 2028, independently of Anthropic and OpenAI.
  2. The valuation has not been updated in almost a year while revenue more than doubled. The round closed in September 2025 on annualized revenue of around $200-232M; by April 2026 it was $500M, and the multiple compressed from roughly 90 to 41 without any change in price.
  3. The secondary market offers a discount to the last round. In July 2026 shares trade at $65.8 against $69.54 in the Series E, roughly 5% lower.
  4. Over 2026 the product moved beyond search. The Comet browser, the Personal Computer agent on Mac and, from July 28, on Windows, a secure sandbox for agents, and an industry build for lawyers raise the subscription price and move the company out of comparison with free Google search.
