About Psi Quantum

Company building a photonic quantum computer based on silicon photonics, aiming for a million-qubit machine. Raised $1B in a Series E in September 2025 at about a $7B valuation led by BlackRock, Temasek, and Baillie Gifford.

PsiQuantum is building a quantum computer on single particles of light. The chips are printed at a commercial semiconductor fab, and the goal is a million-qubit machine. Founded in 2016 in Palo Alto. The first two industrial sites are already under construction, in Queensland and Chicago: work began at Moreton Bay on the site of a former paper mill on June 17, 2026. In July 2026 Victor Peng, former president of AMD and head of Xilinx, became CEO, while founder Jeremy O'Brien moved to executive chairman; in April, Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan joined the board. Current valuation is $7B from a Series E (September 2025); $1.67B raised across five rounds since 2016.

Key highlights

  1. The US government came in with a stake, not a grant. In May 2026 the Department of Commerce distributed $2B under the CHIPS program across nine quantum companies, taking non-controlling equity stakes in return; PsiQuantum signed a letter of intent for $100M.
  2. DARPA moved the company into the final phase of independent verification. In July 2026 the agreement was expanded to $125M under Stage C of the quantum benchmarking program, after $31.8M in September 2025.
  3. Leadership has been rebuilt for industrial scale. In July 2026 Victor Peng, former president of AMD and head of Xilinx, became CEO, while founder Jeremy O'Brien moved to executive chairman; in April, Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan joined the board.
  4. The first industrial site has moved from a slide deck into construction. On June 17, 2026 the company began work at Moreton Bay in Queensland on the site of a former paper mill.
