About Tenstorrent

AI chip developer built on the open RISC-V architecture, led by legendary chip engineer Jim Keller, positioning the company as an alternative to NVIDIA. In December 2024 Tenstorrent closed a round of over $693M led by Samsung Securities and AFW Partners at about a $2.6B valuation. Late 2025 talks pointed to a new round at about a $3.2B valuation.

Tenstorrent builds chips and servers for running AI models on the open RISC-V architecture and licenses the same design to third parties. Founded in 2016 in Toronto. The same Tensix and RISC-V cores sit inside a $999 board and a $110,000 server. By June 25, 2026, 1,000 Galaxy servers had been built, at least half sold, with 10 customers running them on their own premises. On June 30 the company demonstrated 900 tokens per second on the Kimi K2.6 model — roughly three times faster than comparable GPU-based solutions. $1.79B raised in total across named rounds.

Key highlights

  1. Major chipmakers have come right up to the company. In May and June 2026 Bloomberg and Reuters reported interest from Intel and Qualcomm; on June 25 Jim Keller confirmed he had met with executives from both, and in July he denied sale talks and said the company was preparing for a listing.
  2. Manufacturing moved from prototype to series production exactly now. By June 25, 2026, 1,000 Galaxy servers had been built, at least half sold, with 10 customers running them on their own premises, and the largest single order was 96 servers — 3,072 chips.
  3. The advantage in inference speed has become measurable and reproducible. On June 30, 2026 the company demonstrated 900 tokens per second per user on the Kimi K2.6 model and over 400 on the 671-billion-parameter DeepSeek-R1 — roughly three times faster than comparable GPU-based solutions.
  4. Demand for independence from a single supplier has become government policy. Japan is building a sovereign platform on Galaxy through ai& and making a chiplet on the Ascalon core using Rapidus technology, Abu Dhabi signed an agreement with Infinia Technologies, and programs have launched in Cyprus and the Gulf states.
  5. The company closed the bottleneck of chiplet architecture with an acquisition of its own. By buying Blue Cheetah along with its 50-person team, Tenstorrent brought in-house the die-to-die interconnect technology it had licensed for 18 months — a saving of $10-20M on every chip tape-out.
