About Valar Atomics

Designs and is scaling serial production of small high-temperature gas-cooled reactors on helium-cooled TRISO fuel — to power AI data centers, industry, and synthetic fuel production.

Valar Atomics is an American nuclear company, founded in July 2023 by Isaiah Taylor, headquartered in El Segundo. It builds small helium-cooled nuclear reactors fueled by TRISO, which contains fission products even in the event of a runaway overheating accident. The idea is to mass-produce reactors and deploy hundreds of them at a single site to power data centers and industry off-grid. In June 2026 the test reactor Ward 250 in Utah achieved a sustained chain reaction, and in July it became the first next-generation reactor in the US to generate electricity. In August 2026, Sequoia led a $1 billion Series B round that valued the company at $6 billion; total funding raised is about $1.5 billion.

Key highlights

  1. Moving to serial production. Series B proceeds are going toward producing reactors in batches. Assembling NOVA took two years, while Ward 250 achieved a chain reaction in seven months, and each subsequent unit is meant to cost less than the last.
  2. The first gigasite in Utah. In Emery County, the company plans about $1.3 billion in investment and 275 jobs. Local authorities approved the project unanimously, making it the easiest place to deploy the first fleet of reactors.
  3. A data center with NVIDIA. The 30 MW project will be the first commercial sale of energy and a template for other data-center operators. If it succeeds, Valar will have a proven blueprint to replicate at new sites.
  4. In-house fuel. In 2025 the company signed a memorandum with the state of Utah on producing TRISO fuel. Its own fuel supply removes dependence on the handful of suppliers currently constraining the entire small-reactor industry.
  5. Hydrogen and synthetic fuel. At 900°C, hydrogen can be produced directly from reactor heat, bypassing electrolysis. Combined with captured carbon dioxide, this opens up the aviation and marine fuel market, many times larger than the electricity market.
  6. Expansion into Southeast Asia. The Philippine Ward One will be Valar's first reactor abroad. Meralco, the country's largest utility, began talks on the technology in July 2026, which could turn a research project into a commercial one.
