About Field AI

Develops Field Foundation Models — physically grounded models that give humanoid, quadruped, and wheeled robots autonomy in unstructured environments without pre-built maps or GPS. Customers span construction, energy, mining, and logistics.

Field AI is a US developer of software 'brains' for robots operating where there are no markers, maps, or GPS. Founded in January 2023 in Irvine by alumni of NASA's JPL and DeepMind, the founding team won the urban circuit of a DARPA subterranean robotics challenge. Its models run on robots from any manufacturer — from the Spot quadruped to humanoids — and assess on their own where it's safe to step. The robots work on construction sites, in quarries, in energy, on power grids, and in data centers; partners include Caterpillar, Boston Dynamics with Hyundai, McLaren, and Innovo. By June 2026, revenue plus signed contracts exceeded $100 million at a $2 billion valuation. Total funding raised is more than $405 million, with the latest round a $314 million Series A1 in August 2025.

Key highlights

  1. Caterpillar as a sales channel. Caterpillar equipment operates on construction sites and in quarries worldwide, and joint inspections and digital twins give Field AI access to its customer base. If pilots move to production, the company's models could eventually extend to controlling the machines themselves.
  2. Licensing to robot manufacturers. Boston Dynamics and its owner Hyundai already run Field AI's models. Royalties on every robot sold scale with no installation cost per customer, improving margins.
  3. From inspection to physical work. Today the robots mostly patrol sites and collect data. McLaren has already agreed to expand into on-site material delivery, manipulator tasks, and coordinated multi-robot work, which will raise revenue per site.
  4. New industries. Beyond construction, the company sells into mining, energy, power grids, data centers, and defense. Investor BHP and the FieldAI Federal division open the door to two of the highest-value industries on that list.
  5. New market entries. In July 2026, Field AI began operating in the UK, and in June it entered Dubai construction sites alongside Innovo. Offices in Tokyo and Singapore are laying the groundwork for growth in Asia, where the company already has customers.
  6. Fleet data improves the models. Every deployed robot feeds back real-world site experience, and the models learn across the whole fleet without transferring customers' raw data. The more robots in the field, the faster onboarding at a new site and the cheaper each subsequent project becomes.
